I had a browse through your gallery and this was one of the pieces which really stood out from the rest, and I felt compelled to take a closer look. I really like the concept that love is just one more step away. I think at that stage, taking that final step is about making a decision and having the courage to follow it through. I'm not sure it this is written on a path or a wall, but I like the fact that it is narrow. A narrow path symbolises one which is sometimes difficult to tread, and I think that sums love up very well. It's not all "butterflies and rainbows". There are hard times too, and sometimes taking that one step is the most difficult decision. It can be a risk, and can change your life. So I really like the narrow wall/path that this is written on.
The converse clearly represents taking that step. I like the fact that there is only one, rather than a pair. It ties in with the concept of there being only one more step to take. You have also used the colour red very effectively to represent love in this photograph, and I love the fact that you have also chosen a red converse. Great use of colour, and it really strengthens the concept, and stands out against the background.
As far as composition is concerned, I'm very impressed. I think everything is very well positioned. It's one of those photographs which you can look at and just get the instinct that it looks "right". I love the different lengths of chalk, and the pattern that they create - the red of the converse, then the white chalk, then the red chalk, then the white writing.
Also with the composition, I like the fact that the converse partially hides the rest of the path. When we take that last step, we often have no idea of what lies ahead.
I hope you do well in the competition. Let us know how that goes! I only just realised , by the way, that you are only 14 years old! It's incredible that at that age you have already developed great photography skills, and you are capable of convincingly handling diffcult and detailed concepts! I am absolutely certain that you have a very bright future ahead of you.
Wow, love the concept here! This is exactly what I'm going through right now. Gives a new perspective on what lies ahead. Thanks for sharing your talents with the world!
